The Dracula is an old-fashioned swimming lure, but one which will also dive relatively deep during its pattern; this makes it somewhat different to some other short-headed baits in the same mould. Although best as a short bait, the Dracula does make a very good short rigger bait in moderate weather, and a decent long rigger bait in flat conditions. It can be run off the rod-tip very effectively too, making it a good teaser as well as a highly successful big-fish short corner lure. It has a moderate splash, a moderate swim time with a 18"' dive, and a very nice smooth bubble trail. This shape is one of the great classics of blue marlin fishing.
The Dracula can be run effectively up to 11 knots or so., and is availble is sizes for 30 - 130lb tackle. It is one of the easiest of the angled-face baits to use. It is a highly productive lure all over the world, especially in Mauritius, the Azores, Madeira, the Canaries, Brazil and New Zealand. Whether it's a tournament or whether you're fishing for fun, the Dracula is an essential tool in the big-fish arsenal.
